Poem

Yellow
By: Sara Davidovic

Sweat, dripping down my face,
The sun in my eyes blinding,
Completely dehydrated.
As my camel takes me to the next step of my adventure to the oasis,
The light pain of the sand hitting my naked face and legs,
My Islamic silver necklace burning into my skin,
 Absorbing the heat.
It's just me, me and my caravan
Nothing is comforting,
Except for the day dream and the pride I will have when I complete my journey to the oasis,
Nothing is comfortable except the soft fur of my Camel.
I can’t see.
I can’t see anything but a small silverfish spot.
Like a star against a yellow sky
I understand as I come closer,
I’m here.
The oasis is about 300 camel steps ahead,
Hopefully I survive.
Survive the heat,
The pain,
The burn.
My family,
I’m doing this for them,
That is why I need to survive,
That is the light at the end of a tunnel
I can just imagine the freezing cold water dripping down my neck as I begin to drink with great fulfillment.
I realized, it’s over I’m finally here,
i can continue my journey to Mecca

My life goes on.
